Polio Plus

The Polio Plus program commenced in 1978-79 under the 3H program. In 1982 the R.I. Board of Directors adopted a goal of immunising all the world's children against Polio by 2005.

R.I. Is working in a global partnership that includes the World Health Organisation, UNICEF, and the US. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to eradicate polio.
All nations are encouraged to embark on a program of National Immunisation Days. Over US$400 million has been committed by R.I., in addition to voluntary assistance on
those days by Rotarians and friends. Probably about another US$800 million is required.
In December 1996 - January 1997 more than 260 million children under the age of five in Asia were vaccinated. On 18th January, 1997 more than 125 million children in India
were immunised. The government of each country has to give permission for this program to be carried out. The plan is well on the way to success.

Thanks again for all that supported this great project as over $100,000 was raised
